MOORESVILLE, NC (April 6, 2021) - As the 2021 season kicks into high gear, Riley Motorsports has confirmed the expansion of their IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge program. Beginning with next month’s Round 3 at Mid Ohio Sports Car Course, the group will partner with Memphis Tennessee’s Bluff City Racing to campaign a second full-season GR Supra GT4 entry for Anton Dias Perera (Memphis, Tn) and Scott Andrews (Torquay, Aus).
Developed by Toyota Gazoo Racing Europe GmbH (TGR-E), the GR Supra GT4 made its North American debut this season with Riley Motorsports’ No 14 Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) - Latin America entry for Javier Quiros and Alfredo Najri. The program was deemed competitive right out of the box after having achieved a seventh place finish in the season-opening round at Daytona International Speedway. Building off that momentum, the group looks to propel their engineering and development efforts across the board with the addition of the Bluff City Racing entry.
“It’s great to be working with Anton and Scott and to add another GR Supra GT4 to the mix,” said Riley Motorsports Principal, Bill Riley. "This has been such a great platform to work with and I’m looking forward to much success with this driver lineup.”
Driver and founder of Bluff City Racing, Anton Dias Perera joins the team with a wealth of experience across North American road courses. Over the last decade, Dias Perera has seen much success racing in the Porsche Club of America and more recently in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge, where he’s campaigned a Mercedes AMG GT4 for the last year with Scott Andrews. Proven to be a quick study, the Memphis local is keen to begin a new chapter with Riley Motorsports and Toyota.
“Riley Motorsports is such a well established name with a lot of great pedigree so I’m very excited to be racing with them”, said Dias Perera. "My co driver, Scott Andrews is also fantastic with a lot of recent career highlights and noteworthy performances so I’m looking forward to being in a competitive car and competing for good finishes.”
“The GR Supra GT4 is a relatively new platform the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge and I like the idea of being the first customers in the championship and be involved in developing the car with Toyota. I’m looking forward to the challenge.”
No stranger to the Mooresville-based operation, 2021 has already seen an LMP3 category victory at the Rolex 24 and a Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring podium for Andrews behind the wheel of Riley Motorsports’ No. 74 Ligier JS P320 Nissan. This program will bring things full circle for the Australian as he continues to fight for GS class results with Dias Perera and Bluff City Racing, now under the Riley Motorsports fold.
“I’m really looking forward to competing in the rest of the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge season with the new GR Supra GT4” said Andrews. “It’s a great honor to continue my relationship with Riley Motorsports as well as my teammate Anton who has been already done a great job in the GS class this season and noticeably improved during our short time together. I have a lot of confidence in the people around us and we hope for some strong results.”
The IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge season will return to action May 14-16 at Mid Ohio Sports Car Course. The two-hour event will take place Saturday, May 15 at 3:35PM ET, with live coverage on NBC TrackPass. The weekend will also see Riley Motorsports’ pair of Ligier JS P320 Nissans retake the track for Round 3 of the IMSA WeatherTech Championship Sunday, May 16, at 2:30PM ET on NBCSN.
